Making Money (Discworld)
Making Money is a great mindless break. Sure, Pratchett deals with the symbol of money and what it means to society with some thoughts about religion along the way, but when the setting is a world the shape of a donut carried about on the back of elephants, it's easy to just enjoy the commentary and laugh at the humo(u)r. I've either read or listened to all the book in Pratchett's Ankh-Morpork series. In the early books, it was easy to pick up any of the books and enjoy it as a stand alone novel. Now the characters are more developed with more history that isn't covered in every new appearance. Any of the first five books make a great introduction to the world. The latest books have been written for fans.
Pratchett has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's. Having a background in neurology, I'm interested to see how his work changes. There is a fascinating paper written doing an analysis of Mervyn Peaks work to diagnosis his neurological decline. The authors theorized that he had a Lewy body disorder. Alzheimer's has a different clinical course, and it may be that we see nothing from Pratchett as he declines. It is up to him and his family to decide.
